London:: W. Robinson,, 1903-05.. First Printing of the First UK Edition. A Very Good plus sound set bound in blue cloth with gilt stamping to the spine and front cover. Top edge gilt with deckled fore-edges. William Robinson (1838 1935) was an Irish practical gardener and journalist whose ideas about wild gardening spurred the movement that led to the popularising of the English cottage garden, a parallel to the search for honest simplicity and vernacular style of the British Arts and Crafts movement. Robinson advocated more natural and less formal-looking plantings of hardy perennials, shrubs, and climbers, and reacted against the High Victorian patterned gardening, which used tropical materials grown in greenhouses. The set contains a total of 66 chromolithographs with tissue guards as well as numerous black and white engravings.

1871 Captain Cook Voyages Australia Tahiti Hawaii Arctic Pacific Illustrated

"Remember, the greater the opportunity, the fewer are those who see it."
– James Cook

James Cook was an 18th-century British explorer known for these three major world voyages. The initial reason for his expeditions was to seek clarification and discover unknown regions in the Southern Hemisphere, mainly Australia and the surrounding islands. While on this excursion, Cook and company were able to discern many astronomical mysteries, meet local tribes, helped develop means of determining longitude lines, and find several important sea routes.
This 1871 edition is a narrative of all three of Cook's Voyages focusing on the most interesting parts including Tahiti, crossing the Antarctic Circle, New Zealand, Sea Lions and other discoveries in the South Atlantic, Hawaii and its King, Cook slain by Natives, return journey from China, and more. This 1871 edition includes 37 full-page black and white illustrations!
