London: Samson Low, Marston, Low & Searle, 1874. Hardback. Good. Brown cloth boards decorated and embossed with design of prow of ship in black and gold to front, small design of sailor at ship's wheel to spine. 286pp. Presumed first English edition. Small bookbinder's label 'Burn & Co' to rear endpaper. All edges gilt. Externally bumped and frayed at corners and ends of spine, with small splts in spine covering in places, now secured. 1st endpapers have scuffed surface in places, partly caused by a previous attempt to glue the hinge, also causing slight ; first and last hinges cracked, revealing webbing. Rear endpapers have a few glass ring marks; scattered foxing to last few non-text pages. A little faint scattered foxing to random pages throughout but fewer are affected than not. Some movement but text-block tight. Fair to good- overall, priced accordingly.
Synopsis
A Floating City is an adventure novel by French writer Jules Verne first published in 1871. It tells of a woman who, on board the ship Great Eastern with her husband, finds that the man she loves is also on board.
