About This Item
London: William Heinemann Ltd , June 1947. pp 280 Dorothy Kathleen Broster's Jacobite novel, The Flight of the Heron, reprinted June 1947. Near very good in blue cloth, sunned to the spine and the edges of the boards, a few spots to the covers and text block edges, end papers browned, the pages are bright and clean. Lovingly inscribed "To my wife for her to relax with in our home, From her adoring Harry. 16 Nov '48". This book comes from the collection of the scientist and pioneer birth-control campaigner Marie Stopes (1880-1958) which was inherited by her son the philosopher Harry Stopes-Roe (1924-2014) and sold following the death of his widow Mary Stopes-Roe in May of this year. Mary was herself an academic and author, the daughter of the engineer and inventor of the bouncing bomb, Sir Barnes Wallis. 1947
