From the jacket flap: "Flight to Arras is Antoine de Saint-Exupery's "recollection in tranquillity" of those final shattering days of May, 1940, when, though defeat was certain, the fliers of France, pitifully few though they were, fought on. The framework of this book is a single evening's action - a photography sortie carried out at 33,000 feet in defiance of the german fighter planes, followed by an observation flight at 2,000 feet over the German tank parks around burning Arras, within range of every calibre of German anti-aircraft battery.
