The American spiritualist and medium Frances Ann Conant (1831-1875) was also known as J.H. Conant. With the support of the spiritualist newspaper Banner of Light's editor Luther Colby, Conant held public seances in Boston for 17 years, which were covered by the newspaper. It was claimed that she diagnosed and treated diseases through her spiritual contact with a deceased physician. Her claims were criticized by The Boston Courier and P.T. Barnum exposed her in his book "The Humbugs of the World".
