Glasgow: Jacob Mundell, 1796. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition Thus. Large 8vo (16 x 24cm). (Co-published by G. G. & J. Robinson, London). "Editio nova, priore emendatior."; pp. xxx, (2), 575. Text in Latin. All edges speckled blue. Good generous margins. Bound in contemporary full polished calf binding with red title label and gilt ruled lines and decoration to the spine. Binding generally very good with a little general wear and rubbing, leather partially cracked to the joints, but binding strong with both boards still very firmly attached, leather slightly chipped to the head of the rear joint. Contents clean and tight, gift inscription to the front paste-down dated 1804, minimal worming to the lower, outer corner of the first few pages. A very good copy in a very good contemporary binding. (William Baxter (1650-1723) "produced his celebrated Horace, pronounced by Bishop Lowth the best edition of Horace ever yet delivered to the world, in 1701; it was later made the basis of J.M. Gesner's edition (1752) in 1788 Zeunius incorporated in an edition all Baxter's and Gesner's notes).
