Hardback. 234pp. A study of five European fictional heroines in the light of contemporary feminist theory: Madame de Merteuil from Les Liasons dangereuses, Jane Eyre, Emma Bovary, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Tony Buddenbrook from Buddenbrooks by Thomas Mann. It also draws on Cousine Bette from the novel by Honoré de Balzac, Cathy Earshaw from Wuthering Heights, Anna Karenina and Cousin Brazilio by Eca de Queiroz. Red boards with gilt titles to spine are clean and neat. Dust wrapper is lightly rubbed with the occasional minor surface mark. Very good copy in good+ dust wrapper . Hardback. 1972.
