Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1923-1950. Various Editons. Hardcover. Octavos, four volumes mixed. In Very Good condition. Bound in publisher's blue cloth with gilt lettering and tooling on spines. Volumes one, three, and four bound in dark blue and volume two in light blue. Minor shelfwear to heads and tails of spines. Slight rubbing and scratching to boards. Minor foxing to edges of textblocks. Bumping and slight chipping to all fore-edges. Volume one has moderate wear along hinge between spine and front cover with slight soiling and mild chipping to boards. Offset marks to first and rear free edges. Minor separation between first free edge and tipped in plate slightly exposing gutter. Volume two has minor sunfading to spine, slight bubbling to front cover, and slight soiling to top edge of textblock. Volume three has mild warping to top edge of back board and moderate bubbling to both covers. Slight soiling to edges of textblock and minor foxing to endpapers. Volume four has minor soiling to spine with slight soiling to side and bottom edges of textblock. Age-toning to textblocks. Plates tipped in throughout. Slight pencil markings to first free edge of volume two and front pastedown of volumes three and four. Inscribed and dated by previous owner on first free edge of volume one. Shelved in Christianity. This is a mixed set of four volumes. Volume one, entitled "St. Bernard, His Predecessors and Successors, 1000-1200 A.D.," was published in 1923. The second volume, titled "The Friars and the Dead Weight of Tradition, 1200-1400" was published in 1939. The third volume, "Getting and Spending" was published in 1936. The final volume is from 1950 and is called "The Last Days of Medieval Monachism." 1371307. Shelved Dupont Bookstore.
