About This Item

Washington: Government printing Office, 1945. Original Wraps. Very Good. 152 pages including index and a few fold out charts. Citing Nazi use of propaganda to divide U.S. Citizens, this report documents African-Americans, Mexican-Americans and other minorities working in the labor force during World War II. While seeking to shed a positive light on the minority work force and their treatment in the U.S., this report also documents, primarily through statistics rather than particular cases, discrimination in the various industries. The Fair Employment Practice Committee was first established by Roosevelt in 1941, to address widespread discriminatory practices, and with executive order 9346 in 1943, gained more authority, investigating bias against African-Americans in the defense industry. The Fair Employment Practice Committee program was terminated in 1946. VERY GOOD condition. Minor fading and creasing to the wraps, with some creasing to the corners. Interior clean and solid. Minor soiling along the upper fore edge.
