About This Item

Doubleday, Page & Co, 1907. Good +. New York: Doubleday, Page & Co., 1907. Good +. Walter Tittle. 82 unpaginated pages. Applied litho on cloth. Tells the story of the first tea party on Nantucket in 1745 when Cousin Nate Wenworth returned from his voyage to China and had brought home some green tea. The book is essentially one long letter written by Ruth Starbuck Wentworth to her her mother. Each text page has a green ornamental border. The tittle-page and first page of each chapter is illuminated in gold and with color illustrations. There are also color illustrations of the activities described in the letter. Between the illuminations and the illustrations, there 25 color plates in the book. There is minimal cover wear, with an inscription on the inside front cover, dated Thanksgiving 1907. The first gathering has separated from the binding. Light foxing on select pages, and a few intact tears, none of which effect either the text or drawings. Measures 10" x 7 3/4
