1949. Simon & Schuster. First Edition. SIGNED "Good Luck, James Beard" by James Beard on the half-title page. Book is crisp and clean with bright, whimsical illustrations by the award-winning artists Alice and Martin Provensen, the husband and wife team that also created the original design for "Tony the Tiger" in 1952. The dust jacket, which has minor chipping at spine ends and wear along the edges, is bright and vivid. The dust jacket was designed to fold out to make a colorful kitchen poster. Rare signed in this condition from 1949; this is a very clean beautiful copy without any notations or owner additions to the pages.

Description:
1598 Lesina Company Dialogues Italian Political Satire Cuisine Finance OrvietoIn 16th-century Florence, there was a rise a style of literature that focused heavily on political satire. One such work was 'Company of the Lesina Dialogues'. This work of unknown authorship describes a group of travelers on the way to Lesina and their conversations. It covers a wide variety of topics including food and recipes, as well as money and finance – things the group sought upon arriving at their destination.
While there are no exact connections between the two, the parallels between 'Lesina' and Chaucer's 'Canterbury Tales' are evident. Fictional travelers discussing life on their way to a destination.
This edition was published in Orvieto, Italy in 1598. A unique 16th-century work published in a small Italian town.
