S&S. First Edition. hardcover. Very Good/Good. First edition with good unclipped dj ($3.95). Hardcover, published in 1947 by Simon and Schuster, 323 pages. Pages are clean and unmarked, beginning to yellow from age. Previous owner's name on three prelim pages in pencil. Boards are clean and bright, light edge-wear and bumped corners. Dust jacket has moderate surface wear, 1/2 inch chip along both spine extremes and a 2 inch tear on the top edge of front. The copyright page lists no printings, and hence is a first edition. Simon and Schuster have stated: For books published between 1937 and 1973, first editions do not include printing or edition notices on the copyright page. Subsequent editions do include the date and sometimes the printing quantity. The date and the words "first printing" are not always used on first editions, but second and subsequent editions are always marked as such. 1h
