Winona & Stockton: Sutton Hoo Press, 2004. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine. Schoenfielder, Lisa. No. 38 of 160 copies, folio size, 51 pp., signed by Mark Doty and Lisa Schoenfielder. Mark Doty (b. 1953) is recognised as one of the most accomplished poets in America; hailed for his elegant, intelligent verse, Doty has often been compared to poets such as Walt Whitman. The recipient of numerous grants and fellowships, Doty has also won a number of prestigious literary awards including the Whiting Writer's Award, the T. S. Eliot Prize, and the National Poetry Series, among others (n. b., info from the website of the Poetry Foundation). This volume pairs some of his work with woodcuts by Lisa Schoenfielder, Professor of Art at Viturbo University and nationally recognised artist.
___DESCRIPTION: The Thanskgiving 2004 issue of the Sutton Hoo Press, with a lap component binding long-stitched onto a handmade brown paper spine, the boards covered in gold silk, paper label on the front board with the author's last name, fore-edge uncut, ivory endpapers, six woodcuts bound throughout the text, several in three colours (some of the colour was applied by hand with watercolour, others were printed using separate blocks); type Bembo, paper Somerset, folio size (approximately 14.5" tall), pagination: (1)-48, limitation page (49), blank (50), publisher's device in woodcut (51), one of 160 copies, this number 38, signed by Mark Doty and Lisa Schoenfielder.
___CONDITION: Fine, with a strong, square text block, solid hinges, perfectly straight corners with no rubbing, the interior is clean and bright, and it is entirely free of prior owner markings - crisp, as new.
