New York, New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1941. Good. Spine chipped with extremities worn/damaged. Some of the "cages" are loose.. A very charming interactive children's book starring Mr. Luke, a harried zookeeper who needs help putting the animals back in their cages at the end of the night. Each of the eight die-cut animals, ranging from "Trunko" the elephant to "Humpo" the camel, are originally housed in an envelope in the back of the book; the child must take each one and put it in the proper "cage" throughout the book. Each cage has a moveable paper door and a plastic window through which the animal can be seen.

US: Harcourt, Brace, 1941. Hardcover. Very Good- No Dust Jacket. Pages are unmarked and largely clean, except for the very occasional mark and age toning. "3" on copyright page. Rubbing to cloth at spine ends, edges and corners, creasing to spine. Binding is square and sound. All animals are present, as is the envelop on the back endpage. The animals are in their cages, and several of the cages have small 1" tears where the previous child attempted to fit the animal in. Overall, quite well preserved. Pictures available upon request.

Mr. Luke the zookeeper has lost the animals - he forgot the lock the cages at night, and in the morning, they were all gone! Children will find the eight colorful cardboard animals in an envelope attached to the rear cover, and they can help Mr. Luke put the animals back in the cages. Each page has a cage with a door that opens, and the animals can be slid behind the paper bard and clear plastic behind them. Pictorial boards, 22 pages, illustrated dustjacket. The covers have some edgewear and chipping to the spine edges and ends, good hinges, pages clean with some light occasional finger soil, a few closed tears and one tiny chip to the lower margins, some short closed tears where the cage doors open, but all cages and doors are operational and clear plastic pieces inside the bars intact.
