JOHN GIBBON (1827-1896). Gibbon was a Union Army General. DS. 1pg. March 16, 1895. Seattle, Washington. A financial document signed “J.G” on the verso. The body of the document, which concerns the terms of a loan, was written in anther hand and bears a secretarial signature: “One (1) year after date without grace for value received, I promise to pay to the order of John Gibbon, Brig. Genl. U.S.A. Retired, the sum of Two hundred and fifty -- $250 – Dollars with interest at the rate of six – 6 – per cent per annum from date hereof until paid. Interest payable semi-annually at maturity…Jno. Gibbon”. The document is on the letterhead of the Agency for Royal Exchange Assurance, Pacific Coast Branch. In fine condition.
