About This Item

MP3 Audio CD. There are some things in this planet that have fulfilled a person with much surprise as the reality that a man can slay a whale! That a fish, over 60 feet long, and 30 feet round the body; with the thickness of 300 fat oxen made into one; with the toughness of hundreds of horses; are capable to swim at a speed that would bring it right around the planet in 23 days; that can wreck a craft to bits and pieces with one blow of its tail, and slat in the planks of a vessel with one upset of its thick skull; that such a beast can be trapped and slain by man, is most magnificent to hear of, although a person can say from his experience that it is more magnificent to see.

Robert Michael Ballantyne was a Scottish writer of children?s stories who wrote greater than 100 books. He was also a successful artist, and displayed a few of his water-colors at the Royal Scottish Academy.

Robert went back to Scotland to explore that his father passed away. He printed his first book, Hudson's Bay: or, Life in the Wilds of North America, and for quite some time became an employee of the publishers Messrs Constable. He then relinquished his trade to concentrate on his writing career, and started the series of adventure tales for children with which his name is famously interconnected.

He was also known for these works: The Young Fur-Traders (1856), The Coral Island (1857), The World of Ice(1859), Ungava: a Tale of Eskimo Land (1857), The Dog Crusoe (1860), The Lighthouse (1865), Fighting the Whales (1866), Deep Down (1868), The Pirate City (1874), Erling the Bold (1869), The Settler and the Savage (1877), and over 100 other books ensued in unvarying succession, his instruction being in each situation to inscribe to the maximum amount that can be reached or accomplished from personal understanding of the settings he outlined.
