About This Item

Toronto & Garden City: Doubleday Canada Ltd. / Doubleday & Company Inc., 1981. Book. Good. Hardcover. Inscribed by Durelle, on title page. First Edition.. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Fraser tells the compelling story of "one of the all-time greatest contenders in the history of professional boxing -- Yvon Durelle -- the 'fighting fisherman' who brawled his way from obscurity in a remote fishing village in New Brunswick to the top of the boxing world." Mustard boards, black cloth backstrip w/gilt spine lettering, 292 pages (including appendix), illustrated. This copy inscribed and signed by Durelle, on behalf of himself and his wife, "To Dr. Jeweett (sic) a man/that will never forgotn (sic)/Yvon & Theresse (sic)." This is presumably the same Dr. Jewett of whom Theresa Durelle says, on page 224, "If it hadn't been for Dr. Jewett, I don't know where he [Durelle] would have landed," and of whom Durelle says, on page 225, "Eventually I got cured, but not a hundred percent.not perfect. I was cured by Dr. Jewett of Fredericton after eight months of treatment." Mildly cocked, light cover soil, general wear, in price-clipped dust jacket w/slightly faded spine, chipping/tears to corners/spine ends, rubbing, impressions/thin scratches, general wear..

Coming from a boxing fan, this book drew me in and every chapter I read I was more and more interested. Yvon is still inspiring people to chase their dreams. A must have for any diehard boxing fan. Very interesting to have a look into a legends life. One of my favorites.
