This is a detailed account of day-by-day combat during two campaigns fought in June and October of 1966--Operation Nathan Hale and Operation Thayer-Irving. Together these campaigns may characterize the Vietnam War in microcosm. General Marshall depicts war as it is happening--the natural chaos of battle, the frequently mistaken notions of the enemy's whereabouts and intentions, the aloneness felt by a unit or a green soldier. 1971, The Dial Press.
