About This Item
Santa Cruz, 1817. Letter. Very good. Letter. Approx. 8" x 10" 1 page of content. Paper is folded with remnant of wax seal on the left margin. Joseph Foster, writer, discusses the voyage and quest to get American produce, costs of the trip, and trying to "git freight either for Boston or New York." ".... I am in hopes I shall live to [see] the time when this Voyage will be completed." The first part of his voyage apparently was rough. Foster writes "hopin the latter part of Voyage will be better than the first" and estimating that he will be at home first of April. He also writes about Salt fishing. Santa Cruz is more commonly referred to as the Island of St. Croix.
