Illustrated with black & white photos, Steadman drawings and caricatures. First printing stated. Glossy black cloth, titles and illustration stamped in white on the spine, illustration in blind on the cover, black endpapers. Boards square and binding tight, with just a bit of rubbing on spine (see photo), leaves crisp and bright. In the three color illustrated second-state dust jacket with price $7.95 intact on the front flap: spine just a tad sunned, edges and corners lightly rubbed. First printing of the first edition with the second-state dust jacket ($7.95 on front flap; rear panel photo lacking the white border).

Thompson's idiosyncratic Gonzo take on the campaigns of Nixon, McGovern, Wallace and others, and a critique of mainstream political journalism. Written and illustrated for Rolling Stone.

Dust jacket is now preserved in a removable clear archival sleeve.

Synopsis

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream is a novel by Hunter S. Thompson, illustrated by Ralph Steadman. The book is a roman à clef, rooted in autobiographical incidents. The story follows its protagonist, Raoul Duke, and his attorney, Dr. Gonzo, as they descend on Las Vegas to chase the American Dream through a drug-induced haze.
