About This Item

New York & London: D. Appleton and Company, 1929 WYSIWYG pricing--no added shipping charge for standard shipping within USA. Two volumes, dark blue cloth with gilt-stamped monogram on front board of each volume, top edges gilt; Vol 1: xi, 475 pp, 12 plates; Vol. 2: [ix], 452 pp, 12 plates, notes on sources, bibliography, index. Worn at spine, corners, edges, edge gilding faded, paper slightly browned, a few leaves in Vol 1 are wrinkled at top edge with 3 mm closed tears, but the main defect is water damage to the boards up to about ½ inch from bottom edge (sizing is soaked off, leaving a light blue strip), with minor staining to the bottom edges of endpapers, but no smell of mold or mildew. Because 200 pp of Volume 1 are concerned with La Fayette's role in the American Revolution, this book is catalogued as U. S. history; however, this biography spans his entire life from his birth in 1757 to death in 1834, a turbulent period in French history encompassing the French Revolution, Napoleon's Empire, the Restoration, the Revolution of 1830, and the establishment of the second republic. The plates consist mostly of portraits of La Fayette made throughout his life, and reproduced documents. Shipping weight 5 lbs.. First Edition. . Fair/No dj. 23½ X 16 cm.

Twin City Antiquarian Books

Books are offered subject to prior sale. You may return any book within 14 days for a refund; if it was not as described, we will also refund return shipping costs (but please e-mail us first). You can place credit card orders through Biblio, or we will ship upon receipt of payment by check or money order. Sales tax is collected by Biblio and remitted directly to your state, where applicable. SHIPPING IN UNITED STATES: Books are priced postpaid, so there are no additional shipping charges for standard shipping. We will ship via Priority Mail for $12.00 per order (Save on multiple-book orders!). This may be reduced if actual postage is less than for a medium flat-rate box. INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: In most cases, shipping via Biblio's consolidated shipping program via Asendia is the cheapest option on orders up to 5 lbs. International shipping rates are complex (cost depends upon weight and destination), so please feel free to email us for a quote before you order. If the actual cost of shipping is more than the automatically quoted rate, you must approve the additional charges before the order will be shipped. Shipping charges will be reduced if shipping weight is under 3 lbs. All shipping charges (except via Asendia) include 17% to cover Biblio fees and commissions that apply to these charges.
