Compiled by Edith Emerson Forbes, daughter of Ralph Waldo Emerson. 1916 (November); Houghton Mifflin Company; New York. The book features illustrations throughout, some of which are full-page. There is an Index of Titles and an Index of First Lines at the back. The book is chock full of classics such as A Visit from St. Nicholas, Slovenly Peter (Struwwelpeter), Jack and the Beanstalk, Mother Goose rhymes, The Story of the Three Bears, The Story of Little Red Riding Hood, Puss-in-Boots, The Story of Chicken Little...and many more. The contents are grouped as follows: Country Ballads and Animal Stories; Mother Goose and Other Classics; Cautionary Stories in Verse; The School of Good Manners and Other Selections; The Baby - Bedtime Songs and Stories and Hymns; Ballads. The book measures 7 1/8" tall x 5 3/4" wide.

Condition:
Clean covers and spine. Tight binding with no loose pages. There is a crack at the front hinge between the frontispiece and title page (despite the crack the front cover is firmly attached and not shaky). Nice interior - the pages are mostly clean with only a few random stains/smudges here and there; a few small tears at an outer page edge were found. Overall the book is in Very Good condition.
