About This Item

(FONTCUBERTA, JOAN). Fontcuberta, Joan & Pere Formiguera. FAUNA. Utrera (Seville), SPAIN: PHOTOVISON, 1999. First Edition Thus. 8vo. Illustrated Boards. Photography Monograph. Fine/No Jacket - As Issued. 136pp, profusely illustrated in b&w. Text in Spanish. Designed by Tuna Ciner and Joan Fontcuberta. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. A charming entry in the annals of late twentieth century cryptozoology, "Fauna" purports to undertake the photographic and classificatory coverage of several species of heretofore unknown animal life discovered chiefly in Africa and Asia during the expeditions of one "Dr. Peter Ameisenhaufen". While the presence of wry Catalan photographic fauxteur Joan Fontcuberta leaves the veracity of this intriguing volume subject to interpretation, all its participants, real or imagined, deserve an "A" for concept and execution. A brand new, most handsome example of the hardbound 1999 PHOTOVISION Spanish language edition (whose 1988 predecessor is cited on pages 342-343 of The Hasselblad Center's "The Open Book", pages 262-64 of "The Book of 101 Books", page 40 of "From Fair to Fine 2" and page 140 of "From Fair to Fine 3"). 84-86620-15-5 Inventory Number: 026623
