About This Item
New York:: Printed for Private Circulation, ,.. Twenty-seven black and white plates each displaying two models; [31] pp Large 8vo, dark gray embossed stiff wrappers with pictorial panel (chipped) glued to front cover. No other copy located. This catalogue poses rather a mystery. According to A. L. Belden’s Fur Trade in America, German-born George Boos, and his brother, Frederick, came to America in 1853 and set up business as F. Booss & Brother at 449 Broadway where the firm stayed until 1901 when Frederick died; George having pre-deceased him in 1898. It is unclear who this George Boos was, possibly a son or nephew who was operating out of 294 Fifth Avenue? The original brothers were considered two of the great furriers of their era.
