Original green cloth over bevelled boards, upper boards blocked in gilt, silver and red, with vignettes depicting Fram icebound, spines blocked in gilt and silver with titles and vignettes, patterned endpapers, all edges speckled in red; pp. [xv, 480; viii, 456; portrait frontispiece in volume I and monochrome frontispiece in II, 64 monochrome plates, one colour-printed plate (all in pagination), one colour-printed folding map by John Bartholomew & Co., monochrome illustrations and diagrams, 46 full-page, one full-page map, and letterpress tables in the text; large folding map with old repaired tear and a little spotted, otherwise a rather attractive set. Second English edition, the issue without half-title in volume one and patterned (not yellow) endpapers. First published in Norway under the title Fram over polhavet, den norske polarfaerd 1893-1896 (Oslo: 1896-1897), the first English edition with a less evocative binding was published in 1897 and this, the second, in the following year. This is the issue bound from the parts, the last instalment of which contained the binding enabling the owner to have it bound. See PMM 384.
