London: Archibald Constable and Company, 1897. [Polar Travel] FIRST EDITIONS. 2 volumes. Quarto (25 x 18 x 12cm) Numerous illustrations and 4 folding maps, several in colour. Publisher's blue/green cloth with gilt illustration to upper. A used but presentable set; contents shaken within case, owner inscription to first volume, bindings with acceptable wear and soiling, spines a little frayed, tear to head of joint (volume two). An inexpensive and presentable copy of the first edition. Fridtjof Nansen; Zoological scientist; Polar Explorer; Norwegian Delegate- Société des Nations; and originator of 'Nansen passports' (for refugees), was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1922. Listed number 11 in National Geographic's 100 Greatest Adventure books.
