Almanzo and his brother Royal, along with their two sisters, went to school but also had the demands of the seasons governing their lives in northern New York State. There was ground to be plowed, and planting to be done, and then the harvest to get in. There is adventure at the count fair. A delightful story, simply told, it is a faithful record of the hardships and pleasures of a way of life this generation may never experience.. Synopsis

Farmer Boy is a children's historical novel by Laura Ingalls Wilder. First published in 1933, it is the second book in the nine part Little House series, also known as "The Laura Years". Although it was the second book written, Farmer Boy is usually read third in the series, following Little House on the Prairie. Farmer Boy is based on the childhood of Laura's husband, Almanzo Wilder, who grew up in the 1860's near the town of Burke in upstate New York.
