Limited Editions Club, New York. 1958. LIMITED EDITION. 8vo. (9.2 x 6.2 inches). One of 1500 copies, numbered and signed by the illustrator on the colophon page. Includes a signed engraving loosely inserted to a pocket at the rear of the book. The loose plate has a crease to about 2 millimetres at the very edge of one side but well away from the image. A touch of rubbing to the extremities but overall a near fine copy in publishers quarter tan sheepskin with colour printed paper on the boards, with a design by the illustrator. Spine lettered in gilt. Printed at the Cambridge University Press in England. The L E C newsletter for May 1958 loosely inserted. A lovely copy of this beautiful book in the publishers paper covered slip case, using the same pattered paper as the book's boards.

Finely illustrated with Twenty Eight engravings, some full page, by Mahoney in Oliver Twist, Thirty four by Barnard in Sketches by Boz. Attractive early leather binding of half black calf. Spine with raised bands, each with gilt floral design. Compartments ruled in gilt and decorated with blind stamped chain borders and floral centre tool. Red and olive morocco labels, ruled and lettered in gilt. Marbled paper on boards. Tan endpapers. Some offsetting to both free endpapers, probably a reaction to the glue used in the paste-downs. All edges speckled. Some minor rubbing to extremities but overall this is a lovely copy in a fine Victorian binding.

Inscribed by Symons on the front free endpaper " To Dora Gordine from Arthur Symons November 14: 1928(?)". A very good tidy copy in publishers beige cloth with dark green label, lettered and with wavy line border, all in gilt, to the spine. Top edge gilt. Dora Gordine was a noted Estonian Sculptor who regularly exhibited at the Royal Academy and Leicester Galleries in London as well as shows at The Fine Art Society & The London Jewish Museum of Art. Symons was a great champion of her work.
