Millais (1865-1931) writes of travels in Southern Sudan in 1921. He is noted as mapping the areas of Bahr al Ghazal for the first time. With much about wildlife, big game hunting and the Dinka and Nuerclans. Well-illustrated with drawings by the author, by H.R. Millais and from photographs.

Slight cracking to gutters causing binding to be loose, however pages remain attached. Pages and plates have light tanning and foxing throughout. Creasing to rear free endpaper. Pencil inscription to front free endpaper. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Light sunning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Splits to spine ends causing cloth to be frayed. Wear marks overall.

He travelled extensively around the world in the late Victorian period detailing wildlife often for the first time. He is noted for illustrations that are of a particularly exact nature. In 1921 he travelled with his son Raoul Millais to the southern Sudan and mapped for the first time large areas of Bahr al Ghazal.
