First edition. 8vo; 433pp + [7]pp publisher's advertisements; gilt-stamped brown cloth over beveled board; flowered decorative endpapers; b&w author portrait frontispiece with facsimile signature and tissue guard; b&w wood-engraved illustrations and line drawings; laid-in before the rear free endpaper is an old store "Counter Bill" with charming pencil drawings of a stove and wash hanging on a line; light scuffing to board edges and light age-toning of paper, a few scattered spots; very good plus. Divided into three sections: Knitting, Crochet, and Home Decoration, the book gives detailed instruction and illustrations of various types of needlework. Lacking a table of contents, the book features an exhaustive index. A delight for those interested in historical needlework and Victorian needle fashion.
