New York: Rinehart & Company, 1955. Early printing, without the publisher's R cartouche on the copyright page. Signed by Sarton with Depauw April 1958 on the front free endpaper. Blue hardcover with dustjacket. Good condition with some edge rubbing, lower corners bumped, good hinges, sound text block, clean pages, no other names or markings. The mylar protected dustjacket is not priceclipped [3.00] and is good to very good with edgewear, age yellowing to the white background of the rear panel, tiny chips to extremities, very little paper loss.. From the collection of a History professor who became friends with Sarton when they first met at Depauw University in the mid 1950s.. Inscribed by the Author. Hard Cover. Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
