Originally published in 1596, and one of the best known literary masterpieces of Great Britain, THE FAIRIE QUEENE has appeared in many hundreds of editions. This RARE edition of BOOK V, brought to you by HATFIELD BOOKS AND MEMORABILIA, a FIVE STAR SELLER, was published by Archibald Constable in 6 volumes between 1897 and 1900, and continued to be Printed through 1908. In The School Review of February, 1898, we read that "The FAIRIE QUEENE by Edmund Spenser is being edited by K M Warren. The edition will be issued in six small volumes, each containing one book of the poem. Book I has appeared, and recommends itself for use as a text in secondary schools. The glossary is a very full one, and the notes are ample..." This would prove that our 1898 copy of BOOK V is a FIRST EDITION, and most likely the First Printing. 4 3/8" x 6 5/8", 228 pages with no dust jacket. Overall condition is VERY GOOD PLUS. Pages = VERY GOOD PLUS: stamped owner's name and addy on first end page, staining to third end page, light foxing to title page and first contents page, light tanning, else clear, very tight, sharp, no additional marks. Cover (tan cloth boards with red particulars on front only) = VERY GOOD PLUS: some staining to front, heavy rubbing to spine, else very tight, square, clear, sharp.
