8vo, period half calf, spine gilt with morocco labels, illustrated with 32 wood engraved plates, (8 are hand colored), plus additional engraving with the text, vi, [2], 343 pp. Lacks top cover, ex-library copy with the usual markings, spine loose, occasional pencil marks, but contents are about very good. Victorian history of the sport of card-playing, the different types of cards, and the morality of the game. The author was considered one of the top experts of the time.
