About This Item
South Brunswick, NJ: Castle, 1971. Cloth. Fine/very good. Cloth, 216 pps. with index; illustrated. Study of the career of the brilliant star of the silent film era, Lon Chaney, Sr. Chaney, the son of deaf parents who used the expressive hand gestures used to communicate with them to his great advantage in silent pictures, was considered the foremost master of make-up and characterization artistry of early cinema. His most famous role was as "The Phantom of the Opera" (1925). The enormous success of the Broadway musical has indirectly led to a cult revival of interest in the films of this famed actor who died in 1930, having made only one "talkie".
