Santos Verdelho mentions a related work by Mendonça, Sonambulismo do Solitário da Facécia, I Lisbon, 1822.Francisco de Assis Castro e Mendonça (ca. 1791-1860) was born in Coimbra, where he later earned his medical degree. During the 1830s he actively participated in political debate as editor of the periodicals Águia and Industrial civilizador.
