New York: William Morrow & Co., 1948. 8vo. [4], 248 pp. Pumpkin-coloured tweed boards, black lettering on spine (minor shelfwear, dustsoiling, lending library price markings & pocket on ffep.), w/ d.j. cover art by Immerman Studio (minor shelfwear, rubbing), G/VG copy, from the J.K. Gill Lending Library, still managed after the War by pioneering bookseller, Adah Margaret Ewing (1882-1971). First edition of this Lt. Bill Decker police procedural mystery centered around possible murderess, Norma Drosschen, and the debut of the Bill Decker character. Goldstone (1903-1998) was a founding member of the Mystery Writers of America, twice won the Edgar Allan Poe Award, and inspired Sue Grafton in her Alphabet Mystery Series.
