London: Rodwell and Martin, 1820. Book. Very Good. Half Leather. First Edition. 8vo (14 x 22cm). pp. xiii,[3], 238; Two engraved plates "Theatre at Syracuse" & "Theatre at Taormina", both with original tissue guard; list of subscribers. The text is divided into two parts "Tour in Istria and Dalmatia 1817" and "Sicily, Malta and Calabria 1819" both with separate title pages. Contemporary half black polished calf with gilt lettering and decoration to the spine; navy-blue moire silk boards; original marbled end papers. Binding very good and strong with light wear, cloth to boards slightly marked or faded. Contents clean and tight, the odd spot otherwise unmarked; minimal spotting to edges of plates and to tissue guards. Provenance: with the contemporary engraved bookplate of Thomas Christy to the front free end paper. A very good copy..
