About This Item
Folio. San Francisco:Book Club of California, 1999. Folio, xi, [1], 156, [2] pp. Witha frontispiece and 93 color plates. Original blue half silk and decorated boards, slipcase, as new. § First edition, limited to 450 copies. Colin Franklin, most diffidently charming of “marchands amateurs” of the 20th century writes about and illustrates books and scrolls from the earliest known printings to 19th-century travel books, all from his own collections no doubt. The central thesis was to share how to enjoy Japanese art and script without trying to “understand” it. A beautifully designed study from Jonathan Clark at the Artichoke Press
