About This Item

London: Jonathan Cape, 1967. First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Near Fine. 7.5" by 5". Raymond Hawkey. A smart first edition of this spy novel by Len Deighton, in the original dust wrapper. This is a first edition of the work, in the original publisher's black cloth binding with the original dust wrapper and decorative endpapers. Len Deighton is a British author known for his novels on espionage and military history. This novel is entirely packed with suspense, with many twists and false leads, like much of Deighton's other work. 'An Expensive Place to Die' is initially set in Paris, following the story of a middle-aged English spy who is sent to deliver some classified information on a nuclear fall-out. As the story develops, it is hard to know who to trust and who is the enemy. This novels takes its title from an Oscar Wilde quote, saying that "Dying in Paris is a terribly expensive business".Lacking the Top Secret Transit Docket. In original publisher's black cloth binding, with the original price-clipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent with very light bumping to the extremities. The odd mark to the front endpapers. Dust wrapper in excellent condition, with very light edge wear. Internally, firmly bound. Lacking the Top Secret Transit Docket. Pages bright and clean. Near Fine
