Toronto, Betelgeuse Books, [1981], Limited First edition. . original cloth, gilt spine title lettering, very good jacket (rubbed at edges, slight wear at spine head, not price clipped), else a fine copy inscribed & signed by the author with his name on title page. . 8vo [23 x 17 cm]; xiii, 172 pp, color frontis, illustrations, portraits, color plates from photos, maps, bibliography, list of birds, mammals and plants found, index. . An account of the Pelly Lake Expedition that retraced George Back's 1834 travels through the Canadian Arctic and Barrens, from the source of Back's River to Lake Pelly. The Governor of the Hudson's Bay Company at the time, John Henry Pelly, who supported Back's explorations, was an ancestor of the author. The frontis and many illustrations are from Back's original work. A picture of this book is available on request by email.
