Quarto (11" x 8 1/2") bound in red cloth with gilt lettering to spine in original pictorial jacket. Reports of the Research Committee of the Society of Antiquaries of London, Number XXXIV. First edition. Situated at a strategic point on the south coast of England, Portchester was an important defensive site from the Roman period onwards. This volume reports on extensive excavations at the site in the 1960s and 1970s, and describes Norman additions to the Roman defenses, a 12th Century Augustinian priory, and a 16th century naval storehouse. Includes small finds and pottery reports. Condition: Jacket Corners chipped, 1" tear with chips at front heal edge, 2" tear with 1/2" x 2" loss at front head hinge. 42 plate with lay out of the site else very good in like jacket.
