About This Item

Philadelphia: University of Pennsylvania Press, 1985. [1985] Trade Paperback Edition, illustrated, 365 pages, first trade paperback printing, 2nd printing, with new introduction by David B. O'Connor. Translated by A.R. Maxwell-Hyslop and Margaret S. Drower. Condition: This book was in the collection of a scholar, so he wrote on the spine and the lower right corner of the outside back cover, and the title page "upp" (for University of Pennsylvania Press). Old price sticker on inside front cover, small insect mark on outside back cover (with small stain on page 365 and blank page at end), lightly age toned on edges, else overall Very Good. Internally: Fine condition -- pages are clear, very readable; illustrations are clean, vivid and Near Fine. Free of the smell of a cigarette or cigar smoker. A nice copy. This book focuses on the era of the great builders at Karnak and Luxor, the Ramesside kings (ca. 1314-1090 B.C.), and surveys both upper and lower Egypt to give a comprehensive picture of pharaonic society. The author combines studies of monuments and tombs with data from pictorial and literary sources, including papyrus documents, to depict the experiences of royalty, priests, urban artisans, and professionals, peasants, and slaves. Here, too, are clear descriptions of dwelling places, seasonal activities, holiday observances, family life, travel, justice, warfare, and the rites of burial. An excellent overview of life in Egypt in the days of Ramesses the Great. Note: We are a well-established, well-respected, ethical book dealer in business since 1991. We describe the condition of our books thoroughly and honestly, so you'll know exactly what you will be receiving when you order. We ship promptly.. Paperback Trade Edition. Very Good Plus.
