Simon & Schuster, New York, 1955. First Edition. Hardcover (Printed Boards). Very Good Condition/Good. CARTIER-BRESSON, Henri. The Europeans, New York and Paris: Simon & Schuster, Editions Verve, 1955. Folio, first American edition, pp. 134, printed boards, gravures, captions pamphlet tipped in. With its cover design by Joan Miro, this is one of Bresson's most important and collectible books, showing postwar Europe in photos taken between 1950 and 1955. Parr & Badger, V.1., pp. 208-209. Includes original acetate wrapper, with a tear, a small chunk missing, and a Sharpie library number on spine. The Miro cover is near fine, with none of the browning and flaking that is common to this book. The backstrip is pulled a bit at the head of the spine. Two library rubber stampings inside, all else fine. This is the first USA edition. Size: Large Folio (bigger than A3). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
