Cooper..., 1749. 8vo, pp. [iv], 217 [218 blank, 219 - 220 Note], contemporary mottled calf, spine gilt in compartments; half of rear blank end-paper removed, portion of rear marbled end-paper torn away, spine rubbed with loss of gilt, lacks label, upper front joints cracked. Writing to Kames in June, 1747, David Hume said of this work that he had read the essays "with great Satisfaction, the Reasonings are solid, the Conjectures ingenious, & the whole is instructive. The Stile is also very good; correct & nervous & very pure...."
