New York, New York: The Classics of Liberty Library, 1995. Hardcover. Like New/Fine. This special edition was privately printed for the members of The Classics of Liberty Library. "Essays: Second Series" is a series of essays written in 1844 by American essayist, poet, and philosopher, Ralph Waldo Emerson American concerning transcendentalism. It is the second volume of Emerson's Essays, the first being Essays: First Series. Hardcover. Bound in quarter brown genuine leather, linen boards with gilt design on cover, very mildy rubbed. Spine is stamped with 22-karat gold design/lettering, and has raised bands. Film was prepared from the first edition of 1844. The text paper was especially made for this edition by the P. H. Glatfelter Company. Endleaves are a specially commissioned design of Richard J. Wolfe in beautiful, marbled brown, red, blue, gold and white. Extremely minorly scratched, all edges are gilded. Gold silk ribbon bookmark attached. Pages are strong and clean with no marginalia or environmental markings whatsoever. Fly title pages bear floral black and white illustration. Special edition information about this copy included on last page. [xvi] 406 pp. Very nice copy, in fine condition. Full refund if not satisfied.
