Else very good, with the ownership signature of Samuel Putnam Waldo on the front free endpaper. First American edition and the first work by Bacon to be published separately in the United States. Samuel Putnam Waldo was the grandson of Gen. Israel Putnam and a popular writer known for his biographies of Andrew Jackson and Stephen Decatur, and particularly his TOUR OF JAMES MONROE. AMERICAN IMPRINTS 12020.
