RARE FIRST EDITION, AND AN EXCEPTIONAL COPY of this collection of Hearn's essay on American literature primarily extracted from the Times-Democrat and from The Item. Not surprisingly the work is especially strong in relation to Southern American literature, and specifically New Orleans. It contains roughly 50 essays and articles written in the decade between 1878 and 1887.
