"5" in ink at upper right-hand corner of title page. Light marginal pencil marks throughout. No date of publication. Information in the publication goes up to 1848; the State Library of Pennsylvania gives 1849 as the year of publication. Lawyer and judge Garrick Mallery (1784-1866) served in the Pennsylvania legislature from 1827 to 1830. He was the father of Garrick Mallery (1831-1894), an ethnologist who specialized in Native American sign language. Very scarce. In Very Good Condition: disbound; first leaf and last leaf detached but present; light marginal pencil marks; otherwise, clean and tight.

Philadelphia: the committee, 1851. Paperback. Very Good. 8 p.; 22 cm. Disbound from a volume of unrelated 19th-century pamphlets. "4" in ink at upper right-hand corner of title page. Caption title. The address was put together by a committee chaired by William M. Meredith. The address is followed by a statement by Daniel L. Miller, Jr., president of the Sunbury and Erie Railroad Company, about the railroad proposed to connect Sunbury to Erie. The Sunbury and Erie Railroad Company had been chartered in 1837, but did not begin construction until 1852, when the state passed enabling legislation. No date of publication; based on information in the address, 1851 is the most likely date. William Morris Meredith (1799-1873) was a lawyer in Philadelphia; he served as Secretary of the Treasury under President Zachary Taylor in 1849 and 1850. Very scarce. In Very Good Condition: disbound; minor foxing along gutter; otherwise, clean and tight.

Alton B. Parker, (born May 14, 1852, Cortland, N.Y., U.S.—died May 10, 1926, New York, N.Y.), American jurist and Democratic presidential nominee in 1904, defeated by the incumbent, Theodore Roosevelt. wiki.
Having practiced law in Kingston, N.Y., Parker was elected surrogate of Ulster county in 1877 and reelected six years later. He was appointed to the New York Supreme Court in 1885, the state Appeals Court in 1889, and the appellate division of the state Supreme Court in 1896. From 1898 to 1904 Parker was chief justice of the New York Court of Appeals. On the bench, he was noted for upholding the rights of labour and acquired a reputation for fairness, competence, and courtesy. He was persuaded to run for President. but was defeated, taking only 38 percent of the popular vote and winning 140 electoral votes to Roosevelt's 336. McKay, thanking her for the gift of this book (one taped to the half title page, the other loose). John B. Hannum (1915-2007) was a U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania from 1969 to 1991. Leo H.
