Amiens: Duval et Herment, 1852. 1st Edition. Soft cover. Very Good. Original pink, printed covers, string tied, 55 pages. Long, critical essay by Marcel Jerome Riggolot (1786-1854) about the life and work of Italian painter Giorgio Barbarelli (1477/78-1510). Known as Giorgio, Barbarelli, although he died in his thirties, is credited along with Titian by art historians for the Venetian school of Italian Renaissance painting. Rigollot (1786- 1854) was a French doctor and antiquarian best known for his archeological studies of early European inhabitants. Charles Athanese Walckenaer (1771 - 1852) was an Oxford-educated French civil servant and scientist, expert in geography. The inscription at the top of the front cover was in the year of Walckenaer's death with "homage de l'auteur". Covers soiled, with light water stain traversing the upper left corner of the cover and first three pages.
