About This Item

MP3 Audio CD. Alfred John Evans was a famed cricket player for Oxford University, Hampshire, Kent and England. He was successful in golf and racquet sports and excelled in all especially in playing cricket. A. J. Evans was born in Newtown, Hampshire. His career in playing first class cricket lasted for about twenty long years. He was a batsman who uses his right hand and hits the ball hard and played bowling with a medium speed, playing frequently only when he was at the university.

Evans served as a pilot with the Royal Flying Corps (RFC), an air arm of the British Army before and during the World War I, and it merged with the Royal Naval Air Service in 1918 to form the Royal Air Force. In the early emergence of the war, the RFC aided the British Army by artillery co-operation and photographic reconnaissance. This eventually conveyed RFC pilots into aerial battles with the German pilots and later led to the bombing of German military airfields and later the strategic bombing of German industrial and transportation provisions.

He was captured as a prisoner of war by the Germans in the prison camps and tried to escape that led him to write this book, The Escaping Club. Evans provided a complete account of his captivity, imprisonment, and finally escaping successfully from a prison camp of the Germans in First World War. He narrated the day to day living of prisoners in prison and their strategies and unity to escape from the prison camp and from the torturous Germans.

Fans of the Great World War will surely adore every bits and pieces of the story of Alfred John Evans, internalizing every page of the book. His life is so exciting and action inspired from being a cricketer, a pilot of the air force and put in prison and escaping from it to finally marrying the woman he loves and having a talented son.
